Porcelain Blue Willow Switch and Outlet Cover Plates

Blue Willow Outlet and Switch covers are available new on Amazon and used on eBay. Used, vintage and hand-made versions are available on Etsy.

Like Blue Willow china, there can be a lot of variation in switches. The print, especially the border, varies. They are all using cobalt, but the shades of blue can vary. The shape of the covers can vary and some are much shinier than others.

It never bothered me. The outlets and switches weren’t that close to each other.

This one is even glazed front and back.

Double covers were harder to find.

I have never found a three-switch version of a light switch in Blue willow.

It’s not just the photography. The blue turns out a different shade on some of them. I found the switch/outlet combination hardest to find. I had one upside down because I didn’t find one with the switch on the left like I needed for the garbage disposal switch.

I have not found Decora style covers in Blue Willow porcelain. This version is hand-painted on a wood switch plate by Vermont artist Debbi Wetzel. You can find them on Etsy. They are blue and OFF WHITE, not white. They have lacquer over the paint, so they will last.

Another option is to wallpaper or decoupage your cover plates with Blue Willow paper.

Or try printing Blue Willow pattern it with your computer’s printer. If you spray the printed paper with some clear polyurethane over the ink, it won’t bleed and dissolve as you work with it.  Be patient. Wait for it to dry.
